Our Trip to Ethiopia, Day 4

 Sunday, March 12, 2023

Early Sunday morning, we landed in Addis Ababa. We went through immigration and security, claimed our luggage, went through another security checkpoint, and then headed out of the airport to find our driver, Gecho. Mathewos and Helen were there to meet us, too.

We loaded all the luggage onto the top of the van and made plans to meet Mathewos and Helen at church later. We then headed to the SIM guest house, where we unloaded everything, met Darci (she is living in Ethiopia for a 3-month internship with Kibir,) and checked into our apartments for the week. Malia and I were placed in a HUGE apartment that seemed to go on forever with various passageways that led to even more rooms. We got lost a few times as we tried to figure it all out. We had a living room, dining room, kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 2 toilet rooms, and a shower room for just the 2 of us.

After awhile, Gecho picked us up again and we headed to the International Evangelical Church. It was International Sunday, so there were worship leaders from all over the world praising God in their language. It was a small foretaste of Heaven.

After church, Mathewos and Helen took us out to eat at Gusto Italian Restaurant. It was delicious, but we soon felt very tired. Almost 3 days with little sleep will do that to you, I guess. We headed back to the guest house to get settled in, and Darci gave us a short tour.

Soon, Hiwet and Tarikua arrived. Hiwet and Tarikua are 2 very special girls who I met years ago at a girls' orphanage. They have kept in contact with me ever since, and call me their mom. They spent the rest of the day with us going through totes of clothing that we brought and picking out what they wanted. Their eyes lit up like it was Christmas. The power went out, so we lit candles and had granola bars and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner.

After the girls left that evening, we all headed to bed for some much needed rest.
