Since Chris had a business trip to Florida, his workplace put him up at a Disney resort hotel, we had enough Disney points saved up to get free tickets to the Magic Kingdom, and I’m going to be in Ethiopia over Quintin’s birthday, we decided to surprise him with an early birthday trip. And was he ever surprised! Chris flew to Florida last Monday, and Tuesday night he FaceTimed Quintin to tell him about the trip. Then, Quintin and I drove to Detroit and flew to Orlando on Wednesday. We had an amazing time!
On Thursday morning, we received the news that David had passed away. Chris, who had been at a meeting, came back to the hotel room and then spent the morning with me. We took a walk around the lake and grieved together. Disney is known as “the happiest place on earth.” That day, it became both the happiest and saddest place on earth. Happiest, not because of the rides, characters, sights, or food, but because our beloved brother was now HOME and his suffering had ceased. Saddest, because those he loved were left behind with immeasurable grief. He will be missed. Greatly. But David is in the Happiest Place out of this world, and we get to see him again one day.
