Our Trip to Ethiopia, Days 1 & 2

Friday, July 12 & Saturday, July 13, 2019

Friday morning, I took the three youngest boys to Angie's house and then worked on loading the van. Angela got to our house shortly after 10, and we weighed her bags, shuffled some things around, finished packing the van (15 totes of donations plus luggage!), and headed to Fort Wayne to pick up Chris at work. After eating lunch at Don Hall's Tavern, we left for Chicago. We got stuck for awhile in some pretty heavy traffic, but eventually got to the hotel and met Darci. We had to make two trips to the airport since the shuttle couldn't accommodate all of our luggage, but soon we were checked in and through security. After getting some supper at Frontera, we headed to our gate and boarded the aircraft.

We had a good and uneventful 13-hour flight. I slept about 1/2 hour total, but everyone else slept pretty well. We arrived in Dubai, went through immigration, and headed to the exit to find our shuttle to the Copthorne Hotel. Right by the exit, we saw Gabriel! He was originally supposed to come with us on this trip, but he no longer works for AGCI. He was on a trip to Zambia with the new organization he works for, and spent the night at the same hotel as we did. Small world! We checked into our hotel and went to bed.
