Our Trip to Ethiopia and Dubai, Days 1 and 2

Thursday and Friday, June 28 and 29, 2018

Late Thursday morning, Shana, Rachael, and I picked up Jalen and Jordan at VBS and headed to Fort Wayne to meet up with Chris. We took along 16 totes of donations for the orphanages and hospital we were going to visit. Thanks so much to all of you who provided donations!

Off we go!

We ate lunch at Bob Evans in Columbia City, and then drove to Chicago, where we parked our van at a Stay-n-Fly hotel and caught a shuttle to the airport for the first leg of our flight...Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

It took awhile to get all of our totes and luggage inside...

THIS is how the twins thought moving walkways should be done:

We ate dinner, and then waited to board our Emirates flight to Dubai.

On board!

The boys were given activity bags and water bottles.

All settled in for our 14 hour flight. The boys were thrilled to be on the plane and heading back to Ethiopia for the first time since they came home.

So long, Chicago!

It was the first time I had flown Emirates, and I was impressed. The food was good, there were sparkly star lights in the ceiling when the cabin lights were turned off, and I loved the overnight stay in Dubai. I can't sleep on planes, so that was a huge plus for me.

The Dubai airport:

We walked around the airport for awhile, being directed by several different people to the wrong place. We finally found a lady who printed out our overnight hotel vouchers, and caught a taxi to the hotel. Dubai has Lexus and Mercedes taxis (very nice!), and the weather (at night!) was a balmy 104 degrees. Wow.

Tomorrow, we fly to Ethiopia!
