Athens, Greece

We arrived in Athens at night, and took a taxi to our hotel which was within walking distance of the Acropolis. Visiting the Parthenon has always been on my bucket list, so the next morning, we ate breakfast at a cafe and then headed to the Acropolis for a tour. We were able to see the Theatre of Dionysus, the Asklepieion of Athens, Mars Hill, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Propylaea, the Erectheion, and the Parthenon. It was so awesome! I have never in my life seen ancient structures, and to be in the same places Paul the Apostle visited was pretty epic.

The view from our hotel room:

The Parthenon was built in 2500 BC. The stones are all marble and were carried from a mountain across the city. They were hand cut and only fit in one place because each one is unique. And the whole structure is built curved so that from far away, it appears perfectly straight. It took serious engineering and architecture that we couldn’t even think of doing today without computers to make all the mathematical calculations. And it only took 9 years to build.
