Our Trip to Ethiopia, Day 6

Wednesday, November 27, 2024

Today was heartbreaking and beautiful. We met with a group of about 90 prostitutes, served them a meal, handed out Bibles, and gave them double the money they receive when a man abuses them to show that they are worth more. Some of them shared their stories, and said that they sacrifice themselves to provide for their younger siblings. It’s their only choice. 😭  Tesfaye and Linda shared the gospel with them, and then about 20 women stood to show that they were touched by the message and wanted to receive Jesus into their hearts. I cried.

This afternoon, we visited a plastics recycling facility. Two years ago when Shana was visiting Korah, a young man approached her with a business plan to start a recycling facility to help the people living in the trash dump. Shana brought the idea to Chris, who reached out to one of his friends who invested in the project. Now, instead of digging through the trash for food, they pick the plastic, turn it in at a collection point, and make money to buy food.

Afterward, we went to Fili Coffee and then came back to the guest house and spent time with friends. It’s Daniel and Shana’s anniversary, so they were presented with a cake before going on a date. We played games in the evening…it’s quite hilarious playing charades with Ethiopians. ❤️
