Our Trip to Ethiopia, Day 8

Friday, July 19, 2019

This morning, we ate breakfast, checked out of our rooms, and then caught a bajaj to a great little coffee shop where they serve divine macchiatos.

My friend K adopted 2 children from Mekele, and their 2 older birth brothers met us at the coffee shop so I could get updated info and photos of them for K. As an adoptive mama myself, I know how important it is to stay in touch with birth family, and how precious updates are.

We then shopped for a bit before heading to Kisanet school to see the library that Chris's cousin Kelsi raised the money for back in 2014.

Malia found a new friend:

Back at the Axum, we got our luggage, said goodbye to Tadesse and Welde, and headed to the airport.

Wass picked us up at the airport in Addis and drove us to the guest house. We then had dinner at Chanoly again...so good!

Since today was Darci's 18th birthday and Wass turns 39 next week, we bought cake and had a birthday party back at the guest house. We sang "Happy Birthday" and gave gifts, and Wass tried to teach us how to dance.

Soon, it was time for Angela Hansen to head to the airport for her flight home. We were sad to see her go, but we all hugged her goodbye and told her to come to Gambella with us next year. You can tell I've been in Ethiopia for awhile when I almost gave Angela a shoulder-bump hug! 🤣

We sat in the living room for awhile, laughing while Shana told us Ken Davis and Tim Hawkins stories until fairly late. Then...it was time for bed. zzzzzzzzzzzz
