Our Trip to Ethiopia, Days 10 and 11

Saturday, January 13 and Sunday, January 14, 2024

Our last day here! After breakfast and devotions, we headed back to Korah to join Tesfaye’s Saturday morning Bible Study class. There were about 100 kids packed into the small room. We handed out Bibles and snacks to all the kids, and then they sang us a song and asked us to sing to them. We sang What A Friend We Have In Jesus and Jesus Loves Me. Then we met Malia’s sponsored family and Daniel and Shana’s sponsored young lady. We had Chanoly for lunch (everyone’s favorite!) and then waited on the street for Bissy to pick us up. While we waited, we gave our lunch leftovers to 2 moms and their children who were begging on the street. They sat right down and ripped into the food. It was gone in a flash, and several of the children fought over it and chased away other children who tried to get some. It was so heartbreaking to witness.

Back at the guest house, we packed our luggage, rested, and spent time with Tarikua, Muna, and Hiwet. We settled our bills for the week, ate dinner, and headed to the airport. The plane left at about 11:00 pm.

After an extremely long and annoying flight, we arrived in Chicago. It was -9°; an 85° difference from Ethiopia! We waited for almost 3 hours for our luggage after a long but quickly-moving customs line. Finally, everything showed up and we caught a shuttle to the hotel to pick up our van. The van was completely iced over, and it took awhile to clean it off. We had a long but uneventful drive home, dropped Adrian off in Fort Wayne, and picked up the boys at grandma’s. It was so good to see them again! We said goodbye to Ben and Jon, unpacked a few things, and headed to bed.

Before we headed to the airport, Tesfaye came to the guest house to tell us goodbye and gave me this precious letter:
